There’s a Japanese sensibility to the scale of this multi-residential project – a compact, textured building on a tight site, where the detail and material quality do the work. There are 12 apartments in total, with four dwellings on each floor.
The building is single loaded, with all apartments facing north and circulation via an external walkway at the rear. On the top floor, two duplex apartments have internal staircases leading to private roof terraces, clad in a natural bronze finish that continues to weather over time.
The base of the building uses a pebble-dash render – a rough, textured technique common in Collingwood’s older buildings, applied here in a new context. The effect is a textured base with a bronze top that has gradually shifted from a shimmery gold to a softer brown as it’s aged. A bronze entrance canopy and door carry the material down to the street.
